PROVIDENCE HOUSE ZERO

CREATING A NET - ZERO HOUSE FOR SOUTH PROVIDENCE, RI

Providence House Zero is a passive house design studio project that aimed to produce a series of affordable single-family, multi-generational passive homes in Providence.

The project was inspired by the idea of creating an affordable net-zero prefabricated house that has a low carbon footprint. A heavy timber structural frame with cellulose insulated wood fiberboard panels wrapped around it allows for flexible and cost-effective construction. The resulting house has an open ground plan and sufficient daylighting through several judiciously sized windows. Most of the house’s energy need is generated on-site through the 12 solar panels mounted on the roof.
