COASTAL RESILIENCE

TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT

This studio explored the opportunities and challenges of the coastal edge of Field’s Point, Providence. The site at Field’s Point is located on low-lying land and is subject to rising tides and storm surges. It currently contains critical pieces of an outmoded energy system, a conventional water treatment plant, and stockpiles of noxious substances.

The project proposes early adopter climate-change strategies to adapt the coastline. One of these strategies is the creation of a barrier that will protect inland areas from storm surges. The storm barrier will have a transportation system on top to connect Downtown to South Providence.
